With deep regrets we lost two beloved members of our retired teachers organization. Larry Beal and Gladys Long pasted away this past week leaving us much too soon. With heavy hearts our condolences go to their families and friends as they will be sorely missed. Both were wonderful people who loved to teach and cared about the students. Hopefully we will remember their positive attitude and smiling faces.
A celebration of life will be held for Larry at Lake Valley Country Club in Camdenton on April 1 from 1-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation, 3030 Dupont Circle, Jefferson City, Missouri 65109 or online at www.mrta.org to be used for scholarships and grants for active teachers.
Arrangements for Gladys have not been set at this time.
President Sue Dye welcomed everyone to our first meeting of the new year. She welcomed three new members, Michelle Sipe from Sweet Springs, Steve Hemenway from St. Louis and Gail White, former director at LCTC. Committee Chairs provided information regarding their work with MRTA and our local chapter.
The main point of discussion was of the upcoming event of the Region 7 summit that will be hosted by the Camdenton Chapter on April 28.
Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month from March to December, at the First Baptist Church in Camdenton located on Highway 5 south about 1/4 mile south of the square. A monthly program will be presented at 10am with the meeting to immediately follow. Former teachers, school personnel and spouses are encouraged to attend.
