• Highlights of Board of Education Meeting

    February 11, 2013


    Prior to the start of the meeting School Board members were recognized for their time and energy donated to the Camdenton R-III District.  Various groups, organizations, students, and staff provided treats and gifts to honor Board members. 

     

    CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH

    Deb Allen, Office Manager for the Transportation Department since August 2005, was recognized as the February “Classified Employee of the Month.” 

     

     

    NEW BUSINESS

    RECOGNITION OF CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION MONTH

    In recognition of Career & Technical Education month the students and staff at Lake Career & Technical Center showed their appreciation to the Board of Education for their continued support.  Kaslyn Alexander, Hayle Paulsen, and Miranda Theis, CHS seniors in Mrs. Wackerman's Medical Terminology class, presented on behalf of Career & Technical Education Month.

    The Board approved minutes and documentation of the Regular Meeting of January 14, 2013.  Barbour abstained.

    The Board accepted the bid as recommended regarding District investment of funds.  McElyea abstained.

    The Board approved consent items B, C, D, and F as presented.

     

     

    UNFINISHED BUSINESS

    2013-2014 CALENDAR HEARING

     

    CAMDENTON R-III SCHOOL DISTRICT NOTICE OF HEARING:

     

    A hearing will be held on the 2013-2014 school year calendar at Board of Education meeting on February 11, 2013, at 5:30 p.m., Administration Building Board Room, 172 Dare Blvd, Camdenton, MO 65020.  Citizens may be heard on the proposed school starting date of more than ten days prior to the first Monday in September.

     

    In accordance with State law, any School District starting school prior to ten days before first Monday in September (Labor Day) must hold a public hearing.  Publication of the hearing was printed in the local newspaper and sent to local radio stations.

     

    Superintendent Hadfield presented three calendar options as created by a committee.  Superintendent Hadfield reviewed calendar option 1 with the Board and recommended it.  The Board approved Calendar 1 for the 2013-2014 school year as presented.

     

     

    NEW BUSINESS

    SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER ANNUAL REPORT

    Officer Chris Williams gave a report on the progress the Department is making, comparing calendar year 2012 to calendar year 2011.  The goal of the school resource officer program has been to establish a proactive position on school discipline and to establish a relationship between students and law enforcement.

     

    REVIEW DESIGN OPTIONS FOR PROPOSED OSAGE BEACH ELEMENTARY &

                    HURRICANE DECK ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

    Michael Kautz and Kenny Southwick from ACI/Frangkiser Hutchens reviewed preliminary design options for proposed buildings and campaign strategies.  Information regarding an election committee was also shared.

                   

    2013-2014  PERSONNEL NEEDS REPORT      

    Dr. Jim Rich presented the 2013-2014 Personnel Needs Report.  This report provided student/teacher ratios in each building and recommendations concerning certified and classified staff as requested by building and program administrators.

     

    SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT UPDATE

    Dr. Brian Henry briefed the Board on mid-year building reviews.

     

     

                    BOARD PRESIDENT’S WRAP-UP

    This is an opportunity for the Board to report on upcoming meetings, meetings attended, registrations, and deadlines.  The following items were discussed:

    ·         Special Board Meeting – February 15, 2013, 9:30 a.m.

    ·         Legislative Forum - February 19, 2013  (Registered:  Dr. Hadfield, Mrs. Masterson, Mrs. Barbour, Mrs. Martin, Mr. Beckett)

    ·         Regional Leadership Committee Meeting – March 6, Lebanon

    ·         MSBA Spring Regional Meeting – April 17, Dixon R-I

    ·         Elegant Evening - Friday, April 19, 2013



    EXECUTIVE SESSION

    In compliance with State Statute 610.021 (closed meetings and closed records), the Board went into Executive Session for the following purposes:

    1)     Lease, purchase, or sale of real estate (610.021)(2).

    2)     Hiring, firing, disciplining, or promoting particular employees (610.021)(3).

    3)       Scholastic probation, expulsion, or graduation of identifiable individuals (610.021)(6).

    4)     Individually identifiable personnel records, performance ratings, or records pertaining to employees (610.021)(13).
