    2012-2013 Calendar Hearing

CAMDENTON R-III SCHOOL DISTRICT NOTICE OF HEARING:

A hearing will be held on the 2012-2013 school year calendar at Board of Education meeting on February 13, 2012, at 5:30 p.m., Administration Building Board Room, 172 Dare Blvd, Camdenton, MO 65020.  Citizens may be heard on the proposed school starting date of more than ten days prior to the first Monday in September.

In accordance with State law, any School District starting school prior to ten days before first Monday in September (Labor Day) must hold a public hearing.  Publication of the hearing was printed in the local newspaper and sent to local radio stations.

Calendar A was recommended.  One teacher work day was added in August.  Staff preferred an additional day at the start of the year in which to ready their classrooms for “Meet the Teacher Night.”  This date would replace a teacher work day in the spring before spring teacher conferences.  Staff members also wanted to protect Presidents’ Day and also add an additional day at Easter break and protect these days.  All snow days have been added to the end of the year.  Calendar B was also provided, which would slate classes to begin after Labor Day.  The Board adopted Calendar A for the 2012-2013 school year as presented.

    Procurement Card

On February 1, Vice-President McElyea, Board member Barbour, and Superintendent Hadfield participated in a conference call with Kelly Smaldone from PFM Financial Services regarding the District’s interest in beginning a Procurement Card program.  The Board was updated on the information received and the group shared thoughts and ideas of making this program a reality in our District.  The Board voted to continue with the procurement card adoption process.

    Patron Panel Update

The District held its third Patron Panel meeting on January 31.  Superintendent Hadfield provided the Board with a summary of the Panel’s activities.  The Patron Panel wants the District to provide good customer service, have all schools be perceived to be of equal quality, maintain high academic standards, and retain and attract high quality teachers.  Roger Corbin, City Planner for Sunrise Beach, presented information regarding 2010 census data along with how the population growth can impact our District.

    MSBA/MASA Visioning Project Resolution

The Missouri Public Education Vision Project was a joint effort of the Missouri School Boards' Association and the Missouri Association of School Administrators.  School Board members and superintendents from across the State of Missouri spent the past year working on this project.  The report outlines what school boards and administrators should do in order to provide public school students with a rigorous and world-class educational experience.  Recommendations included providing differentiated teaching methods and instructional time for students, making sure buildings are safe and inviting, attracting high quality teachers and retain those teachers, providing support for school construction and renovation, and providing an adequate and equitable school finance system.  MSBA asked school boards to adopt a resolution in support of this project.  The complete Missouri Public Education Vision Project Report is posted at www.visionformopublicschools.org.  The Board approved the resolution to support the Missouri Public Education Vision Project.
