    X.         UNFINISHED BUSINESS

    A.        2012-2013 CALENDAR HEARING

CAMDENTON R-III SCHOOL DISTRICT NOTICE OF HEARING:

A hearing will be held on the 2012-2013 school year calendar at Board of Education meeting on February 13, 2012, at 5:30 p.m., Administration Building Board Room, 172 Dare Blvd, Camdenton, MO 65020.  Citizens may be heard on the proposed school starting date of more than ten days prior to the first Monday in September.

Background:  In accordance with State law, any School District starting school prior to ten days before first Monday in September (Labor Day) must hold a public hearing.  Publication of the hearing was printed in the local newspaper and sent to local radio stations.

Two calendar options will be considered.  Calendar A is being recommended.  One teacher work day has been added in August.  Staff was somewhat adamant in being given an additional day at the start of the year in which to ready their classrooms for “Meet the Teacher Night.”  This date would replace a teacher work day in the spring before spring teacher conferences.  The staff felt that the spring conferences were not as valuable as the ones in the fall and thus, wanted to forego this day.  Staff members also felt we needed to protect Presidents’ Day, add an additional day at Easter break, and protect these days.  All snow days have been added to the end of the year.  Calendar B slates classes to begin after Labor Day.

    B.     PROCUREMENT CARD

Background:  On February 1, Vice-President McElyea, Board member Barbour, and Superintendent Hadfield participated in a conference call with Kelly Smaldone from PFM Financial Services regarding the District’s interest in beginning a Procurement Card program.  The Board will be updated on the information received and share ideas of making this program a reality in our District.

Background:  Mr. Thompson recommends graduation ceremonies for the 2012 graduating class be held on Saturday, May 19.

    G.        2012-2013  PERSONNEL NEEDS REPORT

Background:   Dr. Jim Rich will present the 2012-2013 Personnel Needs Report.  This report will provide student/teacher ratios in each building and provide recommendations concerning certified and classified staff as requested by building and program administrators.

    H.        PATRON PANEL UPDATE

Background:  The District held its third Patron Panel meeting on January 31.  Superintendent Hadfield will provide the Board with a summary of the Panel’s activities.

    I.                   MSBA/MASA VISIONING PROJECT RESOLUTION

Background:  The Missouri Public Education Vision Project was a joint effort of the Missouri School Boards' Association and the Missouri Association of School Administrators.  School Board members and superintendents from across the State of Missouri spent the past year working on this project.  The report outlines what school boards and administrators should do in order to provide public school students with a rigorous and world-class educational experience.  Recommendations included providing differentiated teaching methods and instructional time for students, making sure buildings are safe and inviting, attracting high quality teachers and retain those teachers, providing support for school construction and renovation, and providing an adequate and equitable school finance system.  MSBA has asked school boards to adopt a resolution in support of this project.  The complete Missouri Public Education Vision Project Report is posted at www.visionformopublicschools.org
